OUTDOOR NURSERY ASSOCIATE

Seven Bends Nursery is Hiring!

We are looking for passionate, dedicated, and trustworthy people to join our team for the 2023 growing season!

Are you passionate about the environment? Do you want to contribute to the health and beauty of our landscapes through native plants? Do you have a desire to learn?

If you answered yes, then Seven Bends Nursery may be a great fit for you!

The Outdoor Nursery Associate position involves a diverse array of tasks including:

  • General plant care (planting, weeding, pruning, watering, seed sowing, propagation, etc.)

  • Inventory

  • Vendor assistance at regional plant fairs on select weekends (These are early mornings and long-days on the weekends. We cover transportation to-from these events from Winchester.)

This position is part-time during daylight operating hours. Hours are set, but we are able to offer some degree of flexibility, so this position is perfect for university students or others with other demands on their time.

Preferred experience:

You do NOT need previous experience with native plants for this position, although any knowledge or experience with gardening, plants, interest and/or training in ecology, and retail is a PLUS.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to teamwork

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work diligently

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Previous job experience with great references (unrelated field is fine)

  • Reliable transportation to/from Winchester and Strasburg, VA

  • Computer literate

  • Ability to lift 50lbs

  • Weekend availability (not necessarily all) a must

  • Comfort working outside in all weather conditions

A note to current students or those interested in learning about native plants professionally:

This is a unique opportunity for hands-on training from Dr. Iara Lacher, an ecologist with previous experience at the Smithsonian Institution. If you are a student in the environmental sciences or related field, or simply want to get hands-on training on native plant care and propagation, this is a great option for you!

We encourage an inclusive and diverse workplace and welcome applications from all who are interested in learning about native plants and ecologically-friendly gardening.

Starting hourly rate of $15/hr.

For questions, please email Dr. Iara Lacher at plants@sevenbends.org.
